North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: The Strategic Use of Severance and Release Agreements. It will be held at Guardian Angels Senior Services Corporate Offices (508 Freeport Avenue NW, Elk River) on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 8 am to 9:30 am. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend. In addition, all Elk River, Monticello, and I-94 West Chamber members are invited to attend. There is no cost to attend.
The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any small business owners. Are you thinking about terminating an employee? Few employment decisions create more anxiety or legal risk than a termination.
A powerful tool in reducing the anxiety and legal risk is a severance and release, provided it is used strategically and the agreement is legally-compliant. The course will discuss the strategies and practicalities of using severance and release agreements, including when and how to use the agreements, legal requirements, and potential pitfalls.
Learning objectives are:
- Understand the strategic reasons for, and pros and cons of, offering severance and release agreements when terminating an employee.
- Learn the legal requirements for an enforceable severance and release agreement.
- Learn practical strategies for how to successfully use and present severance and release agreements
This seminar will be presented by Bob Boisvert. Bob is a shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron and a certified Labor & Employment Law Specialist with 31 years of employment law experience.
