North Star SHRM will be hosting a virtual education session titled:

An Eye for AI: Optimizing the Employee Journey

    by Julie Develin

This is a virtual presentation via Zoom on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend. There is no cost to attend. The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and business owners.

Just when we think we have HR (mostly) figured out, along comes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to throw wrenches into the best-laid plans! AI might seem intimidating to some, exciting to others, or somewhere in between to the rest, but the truth is we have all been using AI in our lives for a long time and in many different ways, both at work and at home.
This simple, fun, and interactive presentation will serve as an AI 101 for HR professionals, yet still dive deeper into the art of the possible for those already using AI in their day-to-day work. In an era where technology transforms the workplace, understanding the fundamental concepts of AI is essential for HR practitioners. Join this journey through the basics of AI, emphasizing practical applications tailored specifically for HR throughout key moments in the employee life cycle.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Explore the concepts of AI, (machine learning and deep learning, etc.), and how these technologies can be applied to HR functions.
    2. Discover AI tools, prompts, tips, and tricks for several key parts of the employee lifecycle and learn how to implement methods of practical application
    3. Gain insights into the ethical considerations surrounding AI in HR, including bias mitigation, transparency, and privacy concerns

    Speaker Bio:
Julie Develin, MSHRD, SHRM-SCP, is well-versed in the impact of employee relations, workplace flexibility, and workforce development on business operations. An experienced senior HR leader, Develin, works as a Sr. HCM Strategic Advisor. In this role, she works with organizations across the country on strategic workplace initiatives to enhance productivity, improve communication, and increase satisfaction across the workforce.

With a master’s degree in human resources development from McDaniel College, Develin is no stranger to the value of HCM technology in streamlining and enhancing the employee experience both inside and outside of the HR department. Prior to her career at Kronos, Develin was the vice president of human resources and professional development at Target Community & Educational Services, Inc., where she worked for 17 years and provided strategic human resources advice across the organization. The HR initiatives that she implemented led to the organization being recognized as a national SHRM When Work Works award winner for three consecutive years (2016, 2017, and 2018).

Develin is the co-coordinator of the human resources management graduate program at McDaniel College and has been an adjunct professor in the program since 2009. In addition to advising students, she teaches Compensation and Benefits Design, Practicum Courses, and Portfolio Courses, as well as teaches HR for Public and Non-Profit Organizations — a course she designed and created — in the human services management program.
Develin has been highly involved in local SHRM chapters and is currently a SHRM blog contributor. She was a charter member and assisted in founding Carroll County SHRM, serving as secretary, vice president, president, and webmaster of the organization; now, she has also volunteered with the Maryland SHRM state council in several roles.
Outside of work, Develin enjoys playing softball, is an avid CrossFitter, and, as a Philadelphia native, roots on the Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers
